TLG presented Jordan with a custom award to recognize the accomplishment of being TLG’s first Peterbilt Master Technician.
As a service technician at TLG Peterbilt - Charlotte, Jordan Camp has worked through changing technologies and evolving truck systems during his 21-year career. Along the way, he has continued to expand his knowledge, sharpen his diagnostic skills and invest in the training needed to serve customers.
Now, that commitment has earned him a significant distinction as TLG’s first Peterbilt Master Technician.
The achievement recognizes Camp’s extensive experience, advanced technical training and ability to diagnose and repair complex truck systems. It also represents an important milestone for TLG and its ongoing investment in the people, tools and education that support customer uptime.
“Becoming a Master Technician is a gratifying accomplishment,” Camp said. “I’ve spent half my adult life working on Peterbilts and a lot of time training throughout the years, so it’s gratifying to reach this achievement”
A Commitment to an Evolving Industry
With a career that has spanned more than 20 years, that continuity has given Jordan the opportunity to watch the trucking industry change firsthand.
“When I started, there was much less technology than there is now,” Camp said. “Training has helped me keep up with the ever-changing vehicle.”
Today’s commercial trucks combine mechanical systems with sophisticated electrical, electronic, emissions, powertrain and communications technologies. A technician must be able to understand how those systems interact—not simply repair an individual component.
For Camp, that evolving complexity has made the work more interesting.
The Challenge of Solving Difficult Problems
Ask Camp what he enjoys most about being a diesel technician, and his answer centers on problem-solving.
“I enjoy figuring out issues that other people have tried to figure out or seemed challenged by, especially electrical issues,” he said.
Camp’s approach reflects an important part of modern truck service: replacing a failed component is not always enough. The technician must determine why the failure occurred, confirm the repair and ensure the complete system is operating as intended.
That level of diagnosis benefits both fleets and individual truck owners. Finding the root cause can help prevent repeat repairs, reduce downtime and give customers greater confidence in the work being performed.
“Having the knowledge to find the information on what you’re working on helps you be more efficient in finding the root cause of the customer’s complaint and feel confident in the repair,” said Jordan.
What it Means to Become a Peterbilt Master Technician
The Peterbilt Master Technician designation represents the highest level of technician achievement within Peterbilt’s training program. The program progresses from foundational material to advanced training across the many systems that make up a modern truck.
Technicians advance through online coursework and in-person training, building their knowledge one system at a time. The training covers the broad technical capabilities required to diagnose, maintain and repair Peterbilt vehicles. It reflects a long-term commitment to professional development, hands-on experience and continued learning.
As trucks become more connected and technologically advanced, technician training plays a central role in service quality. Technicians must keep pace with new systems, diagnostic tools, software and repair procedures throughout their careers.
Jordan’s achievement is especially meaningful because it brings together decades of practical experience and ongoing education.
“Peterbilt’s Master Technician program starts at a basic level and progresses to a more advanced level on all the different systems that make up a truck,” Camp explained. “You progress through each level with online courses and in-person training until you complete them all.”
Peterbilt describes the Master Technician designation as recognition of advanced knowledge across major vehicle systems, diagnostic ability, problem-solving skills and technical leadership.
TLG’s Investment in Technician Development
Camp credits TLG’s leadership and service managers with supporting his continued development.
Throughout his career, TLG has invested in sending Camp to training and helping him stay current with new technology. The company has also provided specialty tools and laptops designed to help technicians work more efficiently.
For service technicians, access to training and equipment is more than a workplace benefit. It directly affects the ability to diagnose problems accurately and return trucks to service.
“I like the fact that TLG is willing to invest in technician training and tools that assist with making the everyday task more efficient,” Camp said.
That investment is also part of TLG’s broader focus on developing its service teams. A strong technician can solve difficult problems, but a strong service organization creates an environment where technicians have the resources, information and support to continue improving and providing customers with first-class service to keep their fleets on the road.
“Jordan’s achievement reflects the dedication, technical ability and commitment he brings to TLG and to our customers every day,” said Jason Stierwalt, TLG’s Vice President of Service. “We are proud to recognize him as TLG’s first Peterbilt Master Technician. Jordan’s accomplishment sets an excellent example for technicians throughout our organization.”
A Milestone for TLG and its Customers
Becoming TLG’s first Peterbilt Master Technician is a personal achievement for Jordan, but it is also a milestone for the organization.
Camp credits the service managers who supported him throughout his career and helped create opportunities for continued growth.
“I think TLG has a lot of good technicians who can become Master Technicians,” he said. “It’s rewarding that my service managers throughout the years invested in me, which helped me become the first one.”
Master Technicians can serve an important role within a dealership’s service operation. In addition to handling advanced diagnostic and repair challenges, they can help share knowledge with other technicians and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
For customers, that expertise can translate into more efficient diagnostics, dependable repairs and greater confidence when their truck requires service.
The Future of Semi-Truck Service
Camp began his career in a time when commercial trucks relied on fewer electronic systems. Today, technicians work with increasingly complex vehicles and must continually adapt to new technologies.
That evolution is likely to continue. Advancements in vehicle connectivity, emissions systems, driver-assistance technologies, alternative powertrains and electric vehicles are changing what technicians need to know.
For Camp, adapting to those changes is part of the profession.
“If you enjoy problem-solving and working with your hands and are willing to keep adapting to an ever-changing field, then go for it,” he said when asked what advice he would give someone considering a diesel technician career.
His advice to technicians pursuing the Master Technician designation is equally direct:
“Invest in yourself and take the time to complete the training. It will make you a stronger technician.”
A Commitment to Uptime, All the Time
Jordan Camp’s recognition as TLG’s first Peterbilt Master Technician is the result of years of experience, ongoing training and a genuine interest in solving difficult problems.
His achievement reflects the value of investing in technicians, and the role TLG’s skilled service technicians play in keeping customers on the road.
TLG congratulates Jordan Camp on earning the Peterbilt Master Technician designation and thanks him for more than two decades of service to Peterbilt customers.
As the trucking industry continues to change, TLG remains committed to supporting technicians with the training, tools and resources they need to grow—and to helping customers get back on the road with confidence.
